Ash Wednesday, Valentine’s Day, and Shrove Tuesday
You may have noticed on the calendar that Ash Wednesday falls on February 14th this year. This coincidence has not happened for decades.
Ash Wednesday, as the first day of Lent, always takes precedence over any other memorial for that day. Ash Wednesday is a universal day of fasting and abstinence from meat- which applies to all Catholics from the age of 16-59. This would mean that children in elementary schools are not bound by the law of fasting although we often encourage them to eat more modestly and to abstain from treats on such days.
We will be holding our Valentine’s celebrations on February 13th in order to respect Ash Wednesday as a holy day of fasting and prayer.
As in years past, we will be providing students with 2 pancakes each on Shrove Tuesday February 13th. These will be served to students before 9:30am as a morning snack. You will still need to provide your child with lunch on this day.
Our Kindergarten registration for NEW students (born in 2013 or 2014) will be held on February 6th between 10:00am – 11:30am and 1:30pm – 7:00pm. Please do not come outside of these times as the office is busy with attendance procedures and lunch.
Go Canada Go! day: Friday February 9th
